About the role
We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Activity Leader/Lifeguard Coordinator to join our team. In this varied role, you will supervise and lead a range of sport, leisure and fitness activities across both wet and dry sites, ensuring sessions are safe, engaging and inclusive for all. You will play a key part in delivering excellent customer service, maintaining high standards of safety, and supporting the day-to-day operations of our busy facilities.
What you’ll be doing
• Supervising, leading, and instructing customers and Activity Assistants in a wide range of activities.
• Ensuring the safe day-to-day running of facilities, adhering to all health & safety procedures.
• Preparing equipment and activity areas, carrying out safety checks and basic maintenance.
• Engaging and supporting customers, answering queries, and providing excellent service.
• Promoting Active Luton’s programmes and activities to encourage participation.
• Supporting duty managers, including occasional key holder responsibilities.
What we’re looking for
You will have experience of working in a leisure or sports environment and be confident leading and supervising activities. You will be approachable, reliable, and committed to providing outstanding customer service, with the ability to adapt to a busy and varied environment.
Skills
Essential:
• Experience working in a leisure environment, including wet and dry activities.
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to deal politely and tactfully with a wide range of people.
• Ability to follow established procedures and ensure safety standards are met.
• National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ).
• YMCA Gym Instructor Award (or equivalent).
• Basic IT skills (email, word processing).
• Understanding of equal opportunities and inclusive service delivery.
• Physically able to handle and move activity equipment daily.
Desirable:
• Experience in a customer-facing environment.
• Knowledge of pool and sports hall procedures.
• Evidence of CPD or additional training relevant to leisure and wellbeing.
