| Job role notes | Building Services Officer – Fixed Term 6 Months
Salary: £34,660 per annum, pro rata
Hours: Full time – 37 Hours per week
Location: Active Luton sites
About the role
We are looking for a proactive and practical Building Services Officer to support the effective maintenance and operation of Active Luton’s portfolio of buildings. This is a varied role where you will help ensure our sites remain safe, compliant and fully operational for staff, service users and the wider community. Working closely with the Building Services Manager and wider management team, you will coordinate day-to-day maintenance works, monitor contractor performance and support planned maintenance programmes across multiple sites.
What you’ll be doing
• Coordinating and delivering day-to-day building maintenance across Trust facilities
• Carrying out regular inspections of buildings to ensure they remain safe, compliant and fit for purpose
• Liaising with contractors, suppliers and trade professionals to ensure maintenance works are completed on time and to the required standards
• Monitoring the quality of maintenance work and ensuring contract requirements are met
• Supporting the planning and delivery of planned maintenance and modernisation programmes
• Advising on health and safety matters, including building safety, risk management and accessibility requirements
• Supporting the monitoring of key performance indicators including energy use and building efficiency
• Ensuring appropriate systems are in place to manage statutory compliance and building information for strategic planning
Skills
• Experience working within a building services, estates or maintenance environment
• Understanding of building maintenance practices and health and safety legislation
• Ability to work independently and use initiative within defined procedures
• Strong communication skills with the ability to deal politely and tactfully with a wide range of people and members of the public
• City & Guilds qualification or full apprenticeship in a recognised building trade (e.g. electrician, plumber, joiner)
• Ability to travel between sites to undertake inspections and site visits
• Ability to climb ladders and access loft spaces or roofs when carrying out inspections
